I haven’t written anything for awhile and I’m sorry for that but sometimes I feel so overwhelmed.
I attended my first Dementia support group meeting last week. It was quite interesting and I’m glad I attended. I don’t feel so alone in all of this now. Which, I know I’m not alone, I have family supporting me but the support group people have either been through the same thing I have already or are going through so its a huge help.
My mom is still insisting my dad is cheating with one of the CNAs, when I think she’s the one who has a crush on the 2nd-shift CNA. He’s a young kid; he’s nice-looking, and he’s gay. I’ve told my mom he’s gay, and she’s like I know you told me, not sure if she doesn’t understand what gay means. When I was there yesterday afternoon, she saw him, yelled his name, and waved at him. It’s funny and sad at the same time. At least the young man is really sweet and takes all the attention in stride.
Speaking of the young man. They said one day last week mom got up out of bed, walked to the door of her room and started yelling for the young man. She won’t even attempt to get out of bed for me or anyone else. When they tried to do physical therapy she refuses to do it and says she doesn’t need it. Yet, she will get up and walk for this kid. I’m going to talk to the physical therapist about waiting until 2nd shift to try and do physical therapy with her and see if that CNA can be down there and see if she will get up and the physical therapy then.
Dad has been doing ok. He told me that one day last week, Mom got up and went walking. I told him No, Mom can’t walk. Then I heard this about her getting out of bed. Talk about a shock! Dad doesn’t understand Mom and her dementia. Today Mom said she had been to the hospital; she hasn’t been, and Dad thought she was being serious. Mom thought the nursing home today was the hospital. I had to explain it to Dad it was just Mom’s Dementia acting up.
Today was the Birthday Party for everyone who had an August birthday. Since Dad’s birthday was this month, I wanted to help him celebrate it. Mom didn’t want anything to do with it. They brought her out, and she was throwing a fit the whole time and trying to get the wheelchair to move. I ended up having to leave because of her meltdown. I hate doing that, but sometimes that is all you can do. 🙁 I told my dad I’d be back on Friday.
Well, it’s storming outside so I’m going to go……..I’ll try to keep up to date more.
